Claire English graduated from Falmouth University in Studio Ceramics and worked as a youth and community worker across Cornwall programming and delivering arts activities. Completing an MA in Curatorial Practice also from Falmouth University in 2011. Claire’s MA projects included working with V&A resident Phoebe Cummings and Chris Watson, natural history sound recordist to produce an exhibition involving an unfired clay and sound installation Down There Amongst the Roots. For her final MA project Claire curated a public art project in the town of St Austell with students, artists, writer’s designers, local shopkeeper’s and a group of young parents to install designs sent remotely from American artist Jim Iserman.
Claire has also worked independently as a curator on projects such as Alex Heartley’s Cultural Olympiad project Nowhereisland in 2012 and with Artist Emilia Telese on her performance and film Life Begins at Lands End shown at the Louvre in 2013.
Claire was awarded a graduate internship to deliver an engaging curated arts programme, Confluence 2014. Working on the Penryn Campus with Falmouth and Exeter Universities to curate exhibitions and arts activities in the spaces shared by the students, staff and local people.
